Four ways to volunteer
Which one you choose decides what you have to complete first. Background checks are required for long-term roles only — one-day and group volunteers need a waiver and nothing more.

One-Day Volunteer
Show up for a single workday or event. No application and no background check — just the online waiver before work begins.

Group One-Day Service Project
Bring a team, congregation, class or company for a one-day service project. Coordinated through the group volunteer office.

Long-Term Adult Volunteer (17+)
Recurring roles for volunteers 17 and over — stewards, coaches, docents, parent volunteers and advisory-council board members.

Community Stewardship Program
400+ stewardship days a year, 36 natural areas
The Community Stewardship Program is CPD’s volunteer and community-engagement programme for the district’s natural areas — dunes, prairies, bird sanctuaries, nature gardens and wooded islands. Standard volunteers need no application: pick a workday and sign the waiver.

13 and over: may take part independently after a first visit with a parent.
Every volunteer under 18 needs a waiver signed by a parent or guardian before the workday.
Apprentice Steward is open from age 16 on a one-year commitment.

Park Advisory Councils
Take on your park with your neighbours
A Park Advisory Council partners with its park — gardens, playground fundraising, special events, sponsored recreation programming and advocacy. Registering the council unlocks a defined set of benefits.

Confirmed: The benefit list is quoted from CPD’s Advisory Councils page. Two of them — application fee waivers and expedited event-permit processing — are applied automatically in the permits module when the applicant is a registered council.
Demonstration data. Volunteer records, hours and applications in this environment are sample data, including every hours total. CPD’s adopted FY2026 budget reports 8,070 volunteers tracked in 2024, a 1,966 projection for 2025 and a 4,000 target for 2026.
